This can cause an overload on an old style fuse board with a 5 amp fuse leading to failure and possibly even worse, a fire or an electric shock.
The latest fuse boards and consumer units contain RCD protection devices which turn off or trip the supply on a detected earth fault at 30 milliamps in milliseconds. This reduces the chance of fatal shock to an absolute minimum.
